Can I use the convectors with the boiler in my home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Just like conventional radiators, convectors are suitable for use with combi boilers, boilers and central systems that supply hot water.

How are the convectors installed?

Accepted Answer

Convectors are installed in front of glazing, either within the screed or in a raised floor. The units are placed into channels left at suitable dimensions before the screed is poured, or into channels opened by breaking the existing screed. The channel dimensions must be at least 2 cm larger than the convector edges. After levelling with the height adjustment screws, the unit is fixed to the floor. Water connections are made to the internal coil with flexible hoses, and electrical connections are made as described. Screed is then poured around the channel so that the unit remains embedded in the concrete. Screed height is determined by taking the floor finish — parquet, carpet or marble — into account. Once the finishing work is complete, the protective plate is removed and the decorative grille supplied with the unit is laid on top.

How is the hot water connection made?

Unless otherwise stated in the order, water connections are on the left-hand side (viewed from inside the room). As with radiators, the hot water supply and return pipes coming from below the floor are connected to the coil inside the convector with flexible hoses. Water connections can be made from either the short or the long side of the convector.

What do I need in order to operate the convectors?

Accepted Answer

For fan-free convectors, completed water connections are sufficient. If desired, an on/off valve can be fitted inside the unit or on the manifold so that the device can be switched locally via a room thermostat. Alternatively, the whole hot water system (combi boiler, boiler) can be shut down to switch all convectors at once, without electrothermic valves. Fan-assisted convectors additionally require a 24V power supply from a transformer and a 0-10V control signal from the room thermostat, which means a suitable transformer and thermostat are needed. Electrothermic valves can also be used on request. Thermostatic valves are not suitable for use with convectors.

What voltage do STEKON fan-assisted convectors run on?

Accepted Answer

STEKON convectors operate on a safe 24V DC voltage. A voltage that poses no fatal risk in the event of a water leak or during internal servicing in a home or office environment is the ideal operating voltage for these units.

What are the sound levels of fan-assisted convectors?

Accepted Answer

The fans used in STEKON floor convectors are high-technology EC-motor fans developed specifically for these systems, with proportional speed control. Even at maximum speed the convectors remain quiet, with noise levels between 25 and 32 dBA at 1 metre. For reference, 30 dBA corresponds to a library environment or a soft whisper.

While this can vary with the application, the ideal location is in front of glazing. There, convectors create a warm air curtain that eliminates cold air drop and cold radiation, providing comfortable heating without blocking the view.

Why should I use convectors instead of conventional radiators?

The best heater location is in front of glazing, because most heat loss occurs through glass surfaces. The increasing use of floor-to-ceiling glazing in modern homes and offices forces radiators onto other façade walls, which means inefficient heating. Because floor convectors sit flush with the floor without affecting the view, look decorative and elegant and — most importantly — deliver efficient heating and comfort at the glass line, they have become the modern heating system gradually replacing radiators.

Can the convectors be integrated with a smart home system?

Yes. They integrate fully with smart home systems and can control the valve and fan speed according to your set room temperature, including remote access from a mobile phone. Technical support from our engineers is required for the integration.

Can we order the convectors in the colour of our choice?

Accepted Answer

Unlike other brands, STEKON floor convectors use an in-house decorative grille developed for both durability and aesthetics. The grille is available in anodised aluminium or bronze, and can also be supplied powder-coated in any colour to match your flooring or joinery.

Do the convectors require maintenance, and how are they cleaned?

For both fan-assisted and fan-free convectors maintenance consists only of dust removal. The grille is lifted and dust and debris are vacuumed out periodically. This cleaning also improves the efficiency of the unit.

Do the convectors dry out the air in my home?

This applies to all heaters, independently of this device. Humidity levels are no different from a space heated by a radiator or an air conditioner.

Do fan-assisted convectors raise dust?

Because STEKON optimises the fan airflow rates for convectors, dust lifting is minimised in these units. As long as periodic maintenance is carried out, no dust circulation problem occurs.

How do I know which convector model best suits my home?

Accepted Answer

Every interior has different heating requirements. Once the heating capacity is determined, you can calculate the capacity of the selected unit for your room in the Smartstep selection program and verify that it is suitable. Your other limit is the screed height. The convector height must be chosen according to the available screed depth, and the capacity check then repeated for that model. We recommend using a convector length equal to the length of the glazing.
